Women in Brand: Building a global network for brand enthusiasts

If you’ve been a member of Women in Brand for a while, it’s highly likely you’ve been in an emphatic conversation with us about the long-overdue necessity of a network that facilitates a safe space for female professionals in brand.

But for those of you who are new to WIB, as we’re growing in members every single day, we thought we’d dedicate a few words to reflecting on the journey so far of this incredible network that is Women in Brand - and share all the ways that you can be a part of it.

The story behind Women in Brand

If we haven’t met yet, we simply can’t wait to. We’re Tami and Victoria, founders of the Women in Brand network and two people who dedicate literally every hour of the day to consuming, understanding, and working on brands. You can read a bit more about our professional backgrounds on our website.

The seed for Women in Brand was planted a few years ago, when we quickly realised upon meeting that we shared the same unadulterated passion and belief in branding. We also realised we were kindred spirits in an industry where brand was a desperately needed but completely overlooked discipline.

We were hungry to learn more, but didn’t know where to go (other than the few token, renowned, but male-led courses that are out there). We loved connecting with other women like us, but didn’t know where to start looking – and, since forming WIB we’ve been astounded by just how many incredible female brand leaders are understatedly directing the best work in the business. We see you!

So, we decided to build the safe space that we were seeking out – a community of like-minded women and allies who want to celebrate and share with each other, in a place where for once brand isn’t shoehorned into another ‘traditional’ discipline (like every marketing conference you've ever been to).

Our mission is clear:

We exist to amplify, celebrate, and progress the work of women in brand marketing, strategy, and design.

That ‘progress’ element is particularly pertinent – there are still too many inequalities and stifling environments that women working in brand experience at every stage of their career, so WIB highlights what we can all do to re-dress the balance.

Our achievements so far (and this is just the start)

  • We’re collaborating with two other women who truly believe in what we are wanting to achieve, Mimi Hayton and Shauni Lane. We've got a gorgeous brand identity (we're a branding network, how could we not?) and a focused strategy on what we provide to our members. We really are so fortunate to be working with the best.

  • We regularly create and curate a mix of resources, perspectives, and opportunities to support your brand education and career.

  • We publish opinion pieces from WIB contributors exploring the topics that are most important to our profession.

  • We’ve held an inaugural networking event that gave us all the feels and reminded us why in-person communities are here to stay (comment below if there’s a city you want us to host in soon).

  • We’ve grown to nearly 1,000 members across multiple continents and careers. And so many of you have shared how valuable and sought after a network like ours is.

We fervently believe in the exponential potential of WIB, and we’re overjoyed to have you along on this journey with us. In fact, our network is all about the incredible women behind the brands, and will grow brilliantly if we all dive in head-first together. So, here’s how you can get the most out of the network.
